Expanding the definition of workplace diversity to include disabilities

A recent article in Columbus CEO magazine highlights several central Ohio companies that hired people with disabilities and gained dedicated employees.

“Once an employer sees that a worker with a disability can do the job, they understand what a good fit it can be. Employers see that they want what every other employee wants: to be independent and provide for themselves,” says Susan Carmichael, senior client liaison and human resources specialist for Insperity.

The article also touches on how the first hire is often the biggest hurdle and how small accommodations can make a big difference.
